1. Partile is defined as "within the same degree number. Notice that this is not an orb size. The Moon at 6 Leo 01 is partile Mars at 6 Leo 59, while the Moon in the same place and Mars at 5 Leo 59...(is) not partile," from J. Wise Woman Mom
From The Mountain Astrologer, June-July 2003 (1)

Q.    My daughter has Scorpio rising, and her Pluto is exactly conjunct her Ascendant. What are the benefits and challenges of this?
Wise Woman Mom

A.   To understand the promise of a particular planet in a chart, you must take into account the chart as a whole. And where better to start, in your daughter’s case, than her Scorpio Ascendant with Pluto in partile1 conjunction? This powerful placement reflects her intense personal magnetism and innate capacity to impact her surroundings, both consciously and unconsciously. The foremost challenge of Pluto-in-Scorpio rising is shifting the unconscious power — which can express itself through self-involvement, personal drama, and unevolved sexuality — into conscious power that can transform the individual into a potent creative and social force, perhaps even an agent of planetary change.

Empowerment through engagement” may become your mantra for this 17-year-old whose chart holds such great promise. Guide her energies toward participation in the world, perhaps in the creative arts, or by supporting causes that she deeply cares about. Entice her to become engaged with groups of like-minded souls whose works support her idealism with action.

Collaborative activity allows for the most positive expression of your daughter’s mutable t-square, as she discovers how her unique talents (Uranus in the 2nd house of personal resources) and her idealistic vision and creative capacity (Moon in Pisces in the 5th) can find expression and acknowledgment by participating through service in the real world (Venus–Mars conjunction in Virgo in the 10th). This type of participation can help to transmute the usual insecurity and self-consciousness of the 1st-house Scorpio Saturn and South Node into the self-assuredness and socially conscious potential promised by the 7th-house Taurean North Node.

Group affiliations will also activate the beneficial trine from her Libra Sun and Mercury in the 11th house of social expression to her Aquarian Jupiter at the IC, the very foundation of her chart and her inner security. This will help to build up her sense of selfhood from the inside out, allowing her to discover her values and to put them into practice.

The goal is to transpersonalize the intensity of Pluto — providing a larger arena for self-expression while allowing her personal life to be balanced and healthy. This will offer her a taste of real power, of being a player in a bigger game, thus enabling her to experience her potency in a life-affirming way. In short, your daughter’s creative empowerment in the world is the key to integrating her Pluto, by living a vibrant, meaningful, and conscious life.
